Voice Over: The Automotive Industry Master Plan aims to grow South Africa’s vehicle production to 1 percent of the global output of vehicles by 2035. I mean, we are now moving into the production of new energy vehicles. We are now talking to a mining industry so that we can really be able to see what opportunities exist for us in South Africa so that we can really be able to beneficiate some of the minerals that we have in the country in a manner that helps to grow our economy and also to provide meaningful jobs for our young people in the country going forward.

Voice Over: The odds Automotive sector says it’s vital for government to implement laws and policies on the production of EVs. to enhance South Africa’s competitive global output.

South Africa has to make that transition because our biggest single market, which is the European Union has regulations in place to have only electric vehicles sold as new vehicles from 2035.

So we want to use the time now to gear up, to have the capability to produce. And we released a government policy in December, That sets out how we will achieve that we now have a a tax incentive and a grand scheme in place that incentivizes companies in the auto industry that are ready to make the switch to producing battery electric vehicles in the long term the technologies in car making will evolve.
